E-coli found in some unpasteurized fruit-juice. |
The reason that humankind selected thousands of years ago alcoholic beverages like wine and beer in its long struggle to survive, is that, the other beverages (water, milk and juices) had to be fresh from the source when consumed to avoid sickness and death. Only alcoholic beverages could be saved for later, and could be transported to other places for consumption. Only in the last century, modern technology can make other beverages relatively save to drink. These other beverages are then pasteurized, sterilized, beamed, chemically treated, ... are made "dead" to be fit for transport and consumption. I'll stick to a good beer, a living beer, a Belgian beer. (Newsletter December 1996) |
