Study says beer, wine, liquor can help heart. |
Dr. J. Michael Gaziano of Harvard Medical School proves in a study that a drink or two a day cuts the risk, of having a heart attack, in half. Until lately, it was only red wine that got the good points. The new study concludes it's only the alcohol in the drinks that helps. Alcohol raises the body's levels of HDL, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the good cholesterol that keeps the arteries free of dangerous buildups. Mr. Gaziano's study says, all forms of alcohol seem to protect the heart equally well, if enjoyed regularly but in modest amounts. Our Belgian Beers have one more important benefit, and that is, that it tastes delicious. (Newsletter December 1995.) |
