Women and Alcohol.

New research at the University of Gent (Belgium) shows that a woman’s body has more trouble digesting alcohol than a man’s body. The reason lays in the kind of enzymes, present in their stomachs. Their mix of enzymes is different from the man’s enzymes, and their enzymes transfer more alcohol into the woman’s blood. This was confirmed by research at the Alcohol Research and Treatment center in New York. It only shows what has been known to mankind for quite some time: women are different from men, and women are a faster drunk than men. We didn’t need research to know that!

But here is a more interesting result of the research. The research shows that women have most trouble when handling wine alcohol and hard liquor. The digestion of beer alcohol seems to be similar in men and in women. At the University of Gent the researchers recmmend women drink one or two top fermented beers per day, and they recommend also not to shun hoppy beers, since the hops seem to protect them from breast cancer.

I say, let every women drink every day a glass of Poperings Hommel Ale, or one of the beautiful beers of Br. Van Steenberge, a brewer who is known to hop his beers very well: Augustijn or Piraat for example.
