We were all on the bus at 9 am. We traveled to the Trappist Abbey of Orval. The ride was nice and very country. We all thought that there were more cows than people!!! We toured Orval and it was amazing. We actually ducked underneath their bottling line which would have never happened in the U.S. After the tour, we walked around the ruins. This was spectualar. We learned about the legend of Matilda and why there is a fish on the Orval bottle. For lunch, we went to l'Ange Gardien in Orval which is the brewery cafe. We had a cold plate with vegetables, meats, cheese and bread. Some of us tried the Orval green. After lunch, we travelled to the village of Rulles where we visited the local microbrewery. The name of the microbrewery is the same name as the village. We toured their brewery and then we sat in the sun and tried some of their beers.
We went back to the hotel and relaxed. Some of us walked around. Around 6, we went to Brasserie Lamborelle for dinner. It was quite an experience. We got to cook our own meal on hot stones!!! The meal is called Pierrade. We had beef, potatoes, corn, and a small salad. There was also an extensive beer list (150 beers). It took us awhile to look through the menu!!! Dinner and a few beers wasn't enough for us so we went to a pub next door. We had Trappistes Rochefort 10.
