Fun & Beer Tour Belgium 2009
Monday, September 14th, 2009

Some of us were still jetlagged but we manged to make it on the bus by 9am. We traveled through the Ardennes. We stopped at Brewery Achouffe and learned about their brewery. We didn't go far for lunch because they have a restaurant right there at the brewery. We had insalat (cheeses, meats and sald). Of course, we had their beer (La Achouffe and Mc. Achouffe). We checked into our hotel in Bastogne and then we went to the WWII Memorial. This was incredible!!!

The next stop was the Trappist Abbey at Rochefort. We were not allowed in but we still walked around and saw the church. We went to a pub and tasted the Rochefort.Rochefort

After the tasting, we traveled to the village of Soy and visited the 'strange' Fantome brewery. This brewery was amazing. It is a two room operation and the brewer is very charming. He is definitely an artist and puts a lot of time and effort in his work. We tasted Fantome Blance, Fantome and Saint Roch. They were all very tasty beers.

We went to dinner at Le Statu Quo in Houffalize. For the first course, we got the option of beef carpaccio or shrimps in garlic butter. The second course was either Pigeons or Codfish fillets. For the dessert, we had raspberry mousse. We had La Chouffe or Mc. Chouffe to drink.
