BJs Camaraderie Beer Release.

Bj’s RESTAURANT & Brewhouse and Bavik Brewery launch exclusive Belgian Beer

CAMARADERIE ALE Begins Pouring on Draft In November

Middleton, Mass. – (Nov. 08, 2012) –BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse and Belgium’s Bavik Brewery launched a brand new beer, aptly titled Camaraderie Ale, a special blend of Belgian and American classic beer styles. After a successful pre-launch at select BJ’s locations, Camaraderie will now be on tap exclusively at BJ’s locations across the country.

Global Beer Network, the exclusive U.S. importer for more than 60 Belgian beer labels, collaborated with Alex Puchner, senior vice president of brewing operations for BJ’s, to bring this exciting new ale to BJ’s restaurants. Puchner and Global Beer Network President Steve Villani introduced BJ’s to Bavik Brewery, one of the leading Belgian breweries, to craft the new Belgo-American beer.

“This is the first time a Belgian brewery has used this blend of American hops to craft a beer,” said Villani. “Alex was confident that the special blend of mild Belgian-style beers and American-style bitterness would be special. We started working on this alliance more than two years ago. We’re excited to see BJ’s locations feature this extraordinary beer.”

Bavik Brewery, BJ’s and Global Beer see this partnership as a great way to introduce new customers to the amazing taste and rich history offered by Belgian beers.

“I went to Belgium to oversee the hopping of the beer,” said Puchner. “The hops were exclusively American – Amarillo and Cascade – which are very different from the milder European hops, called noble hops. Adding these American hops throughout the brewing process, including dry hopping after fermentation, produced an extraordinary ale. I know beer lovers appreciate its rich, complex flavors with a refreshingly tart and slightly bitter finish.”

The BJ’s team was inspired to craft Camaraderie Ale after tasting and admiring the flavor intensity of Belgian beers. While American brewers use large amounts of hops for their citrus or pine aromas and a bitter finish, Belgian brewers are more inclined to rely on fermentation-derived flavors that have fruity and spicy notes.

To craft Camaraderie, Bavik brewery blended the American hops with their award-winning Belgian Triple base, along with a generous amount of their world-renowned sour pale beer that is aged in oak barrels for two years.

Camaraderie Ale, a seasonal beer, will be available at all 130 BJ’s locations in 15 states beginning in November.
