Company Has Tripled in Size Since Ownership Change in Late 2007

Middleton, Mass. – (January 2013) – Global Beer Network, the exclusive U.S. importer for more than 60 Belgian beer labels, is ringing in the new year by celebrating several five-year milestones. Current owners, Steve Villani and Cliff Lusso, Jr., purchased Global Beer Network in December 2007.

During the past five years, Global Beer Network has:

  • Tripled the overall size of the company
  • Grown from two to 22 employees
  • Increased distributors from 36 to 108 today
  • Expanded beer sales to 47 states (up from 32 five years ago)

In addition to the operational milestones, Global Beer Network has also launched a comprehensive campaign to share the Belgian beer story in order to increase interest, and ultimately sales, by engaging beer enthusiasts across the country.

“Global Beer was founded to help educate and excite beer lovers in America about the quality, passion and commitment of Belgian brewers,” said Steve Villani, president, Global Beer Network. “The past five years have seen the largest growth in the nearly 20-year history of our company as we have worked to engage a whole new community of beer lovers. Since its inception in 1994, Global Beer has been at the leading edge of introducing the craftsmanship of Belgian beers to enthusiasts in America. Our growth is a tribute to the great fans who are passionate about Belgian beer.” In addition to the five-year milestones, during 2012 Global Beer Network became the only U.S. supplier to offer a sample pack of exclusively sour beers—Sour Power Sampler—a unique six pack of three hand-selected Belgian sour beers. The company also introduced new Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple to its most popular label. At 10.7 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), new Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple is brewed using four times the quantity of malt in a traditional lager beer, giving the brew a sweet flavor and generous alcohol content.

Global Beer Network was founded in 1994 in Santa Barbara, Calif. By Johnny Fincioen and Claudine Van Massenhove, two incredibly passionate and talented people from Flanders who built the company from nothing.  They are two individuals responsible for the success of Belgian Beer in this country and deserve the majority of the credit for Global Beer success.  The company was relocated to the Boston area following the 2007 purchase by Villani and Lusso.
