Benediktiner stands as a modern expression of Bavarian monastic brewing — a brand rooted in centuries of tradition, guided by the values of the Benedictine monks of Ettal Abbey.

Nestled in the alpine village of Ettal, over 800 meters above sea level, Ettal Abbey has been home to a Benedictine community for more than 600 years. Within this setting, a philosophy of balance, mindfulness, and respect for nature has shaped daily life — principles that continue to influence the character and quality of Benediktiner beers today.

While inspired by monastic heritage, Benediktiner is brought to life through a partnership between Benediktiner Weissbräu GmbH and Bitburger Brewery Group. Brewed according to original Benedictine recipes and using a proprietary yeast sourced from the Ettal region, the beers reflect both tradition and technical precision.

Carefully selected ingredients and a controlled brewing process ensure consistency and quality, while ongoing oversight — including tasting and evaluation — maintains the integrity of the final product. The result is a portfolio of wheat beers that are refined, approachable, and distinctly Bavarian in character.

The History

The origins of Benediktiner trace back to the long-standing brewing traditions of the Benedictine monks at Ettal Abbey, where craftsmanship and discipline have been practiced for generations. These traditions form the foundation of the brand, connecting each beer to a legacy of patience, care, and purpose.

In its modern form, Benediktiner represents a continuation of this heritage — combining centuries-old philosophy with contemporary brewing expertise. Today, the brand is enjoyed in more than 50 countries worldwide, carrying forward the spirit of Ettal while introducing a global audience to the depth and tradition of Bavarian wheat beer.
