Formerly named Edel-Weisse, Festweisse was the original brand offered during Munich’s Okotberfest. Historically the taste of the beer varied year to year as the brewery would use whatever remaining hops they had in storage to make way for the incoming supply from the fall harvest. The amount of hops available would vary depending on annual brewing volumes. Georg Schneider IV told his grandson, Georg VI,  that the beer always had a slight lemony character. George VI concluded that the lemony flavor must have come from aged hops and was happy to discover those characteristics in Cascade hops after a trip to the United States. Now working with a precise hop bill, the beer has a bright and refreshing quality that shines with the fruity yeast esters synonymous with the Original Schneider Weisse.
